'Incident highlights need for more CCTV'

CAMPAIGNERS wanting more CCTV coverage in Dolgellau have said that the major incident over the weekend demonstrates the need for more cameras in town.

The CCTV Group Partnership Dolgellau fund-raises on behalf of the town to get more cameras installed for the safety of residents.

An open meeting was held on Monday, 16 August, at the Royal Ship Hotel in Eldon Square to discuss plans for the CCTV scheme. The meeting had already been scheduled before the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

CCTV cameras privately-owned by Glan Wnion Leisure Centre captured the ‘serious disorder’ in the town over the weekend and the footage has been vital in the police investigation over the weekend.
