Crymych in sevens heaven

DESPITE generally overcast conditions, the annual Sion Wyn Ruby Sevens tournament took place on Cae Glas, Machynlleth, and it was Crymych (pictured) who made their long journey north worthwhile by winning the main competition.
Crymych overcame the challenge of a talented Lampeter side in the semi-final of the Lloyd’s Coaches Cup competition, while Aberystwyth, a frequent winner of the competition, easily beat last year’s winners Bro Ffestiniog in the other semi.
The final proved to be a very entertaining game, with Aber leading at half time.
However, a determined Crymych hit back after the interval, and they went on to take the honours by 26 points to 24.
In the the Dorian Lloyd Farriers Plate competition, hosts Machynlleth beat Aberdyfi in the quarter-final and just about edged past Tregaron in the semi-final.
They took on Pwllheli in the final and were leading well at half time. Pwllheli came back strongly after the break to draw level, but the local boys went on to eventually triumph by 27-12 in the pouring rain.
