What are RSS Feeds?

RSS stands for “Real Simple Syndication”. It’s an easy way to distribute web content such as news, stories, blogs, etc. to a large number of people.

Software programs, called RSS readers (or RSS aggregators), take that content and present it in an organized and easy to view format.

On large or busy websites, the content can change / update on an unpredictable basis. Repeatedly checking each site to see if there’s any new content can be time consuming.

RSS is a great way to be notified of new and changed info. By subscribing to an RSS feed, you can automatically receive updated content from multiple websites.

An RSS feed is usually indicated by a RSS icon above the relevant post. Clicking on this icon usually shows you the RSS feed.

With an RSS reader you can subscribe to many 'feeds' from different websites and read the new entries all in one place, without having to visit individual Web sites to find out what’s new.

There are many RSS readers available to purchase; however Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox have built in, simple RSS readers.

To subscribe to a Cambrian News RSS News feed using Internet Explorer 8:

• Go to the News section of the website, and click on the RSS icon by the title.
• Click on "Subscribe to this Feed".
• A window will pop up asking to confirm this. Click "Subscribe".
• You can now read Cambrian News stories as they are updated by clicking on the 'Favorites' icon and clicking on the 'Feeds' tab.

To subscribe to a Cambrian News RSS News feed using Firefox:

• Go to the News section of the website, and click on the RSS icon by the title.
• Click on "Subscribe Now".
• A window will pop up asking to confirm this. Click "Subscribe".
• You can now access a drop down menu of Cambrian News stories by clicking on the 'Cambrian News' tab on the Bookmarks Toolbar. Click on a title to view the whole story.
