DOLGELLAU were crowned champions of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League after beating title rivals Aberystwyth University Seconds 2-1 in their penultimate match last weekend.
Goals from Joe Ephraim and Darryl Johns ensured that Dolgellau lifted the division one shield, with one game to spare, after the students had led 1-0 at half-time through a tap in from Tristan Harris.
It had been a hectic run-in for Dolgellau who, having already won the Len and Julia Newman Memorial Trophy, started a crucial final week with a 3-2 home win over Borth United Reserves last Tuesday.
The home team raced to a three goal lead, courtesy of a David Edwards penalty and one goal each from Dominic Thomas and Ryan Thomas, although Borth battled back with a Rob Crumpler goal and a penalty from skipper James Davies.
Dolgellau then moved two points clear at the top with an emphatic 6-0 win over Padarn United on Thursday, and needing just one more point to secure the title.
Dominic Thomas scored twice and David Edwards, Ryan Thomas, Joe Ephraim and Iwan Lloyd netted - to set up a potential title decider against the students.
After then beating the Uni on Saturday, Dolgellau finally signed off with a 5-1 win over Tregaron on Monday, courtesy of two goals from Jasper Jones and singles by Dominic Thomas, David Edwards and Ryan Thomas. Caio Wyn ap Rhys replied.
Borth Reserves consolidated their top three finish in division one last Thursday with a thrilling 6-5 win over Aberdyfi.
It was tough luck on Dave Jenkins, who scored a hat-trick for Aberdyfi, with Ian Holton and Sam Evenson also scoring.
Ben Byrne had scored twice and James Davies was also on the mark for Borth in the opening 10 minutes, before Jenkins pulled one back with Aberdyfi’s first goal.
Byrne then completed his hat-trick with a low strike, and Jamie Walker also got onto the scoresheet to open up a 5-1 lead.
Aberdyfi pulled it back to 5-4, but Borth’s first team manager Ian Lewis came on as a substitute and scored with a low strike, before Aberdyfi scored again.
Talybont completed their season with a 3-0 win over Padarn last Tuesday, with goals by Robbie Southgate, Paul Keegan and Jamie Barron from the penalty spot.
Division two champions Llanrhystud registered a 4-2 away win over Aberystwyth University Thirds on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Liam Lewis, Kyle Chillery, Phil Davies and Lee Jones.
The students battled hard at Blaendolau to score second half replies through Rian Devlin and a Chris Warden free-kick.
Llanrhystud had taken a step closer towards the title last Monday evening with a 1-1 draw at Dolgellau Reserves, with Lee Jones on target for the visitors, and George Jackson-Townhend for the hosts.
Challengers Aberystwyth University Thirds, however, responded the following evening with a 6-2 win over Padarn Reserves to keep their title hopes alive.
Leading 1-0 at half time through Tom Spicer, the students took charge with Nathan Ash and Josh Price scoring doubles, and Henry Nicholson also on target.
Needing one more win to secure the division two title, Llanrhystud dominated their penultimate match against Llanilar Reserves to win 7-1 on Wednesday night.
Liam Lewis led the way with a hat-trick, Robin Baresi Mleczek scored twice and Kyle Chillery and Ben Lewis also netted to complete a comfortable away win.
Talybont Reserves claimed the runners-up spot after two goals from Bari Southgate and singles by Ben Hall, Steff Foulkes, Brad Dowse and Sion Owen earned a 6-0 win at Llanilar Reserves on Saturday.
