CCTV cameras installed on the A487 through Bow Street were erected to explore the possibility of introducing a pedestrian crossing, the Welsh Government has said.
Suspicions were raised after two large poles with what appeared to be cameras on the top of them were erected on the opposite side of the road to the Spar, apparently causing three nearby street lights to stop working.
Adrian Warburton, who lives next to the Spar, said he became concerned that the cameras could be an invasion of his privacy.
“To be frank, I don’t understand the reason behind it and we haven’t been told anything,” said Mr Warburton.
“One of them was put up last week and then another was put up at the weekend.
“The poles are about 12 or 13 feet high and pointing towards the Spar. I don’t know what it’s all about.
“Since they have been installed, three street lights have gone off and it gets pretty dark at night.”
Mr Warburton added that the cameras have since been taken down, although the street lamps are still not working.
But after the owner of the Spar, Dylan Roberts, got in touch with the council, he was told the cameras were in fact monitoring traffic on the road to determine the feasibility of a pedestrian crossing.
Mr Roberts said: “I have spoken to the council and they said the cameras were to assess the viability of a pedestrian crossing.
