MEMBERS celebrated St Davids Day with some members making the traditional ‘cawl’ and Hazel Rimmer, the president, had prepared a quiz and Althea Tyndale and Margaret Rees entertained all with items on the harp.

Carol Evans thanked those who had made the evening a success.

The following week, Eirwen James, the federation secretary, was the guest speaker. She talked about the history of the Drovers who organized the movement of cattle, sheep and geese by foot to London. There were 14 smithies in Tregaron at one time as all the animals had to be shod before they started their long walk. The driver and his helpers were responsible for moving the animals across the countryside. The tradition came to an end with the coming of the railway. Women used to walk to London with the drovers to sell socks they had been knitting and to work in the gardens over the summer. A very interesting evening.

On 20 March the guest speaker was Nigel Nicholas who works for the Ceredigion Coastal Path. He was an interesting speaker who gave an excellent presentation on the formation of the coastal path and the ongoing work to keep the footpath open all 60 miles from the Dyfi in the north to the Teifi in the south.

Carol Evans thanked him for an inspiring evening. Then competition of a photograph of the coastal path was won by Eirlys Jones and Jenny Dee. The raffle was won by Olivia Lewis, 2nd Helen Jones.

At the end of March, Madeleine Stocks came to share some Quick and Easy Recipes. She made a pizza and a lemon cheesecake.
