Women’s Institute

LLANWNNEN WI held their annual general meeting on Monday evening, 2 October, at Capel-y-groes Vestry and had the pleasure of the company of Brenda Wright, federation chairman. 

Avril Jones, president of Llanwnnen WI extended a warm welcome to everybody to the meeting and presented her annual report of the year’s activities. 

Ann Hughes, secretary also presented her annual report and Ceinwen Roach, treasurer reported on the transactions of accounts.

The officers for 2017/18 were then elected: president – Carol Thomas; vice-presidents – Gwen Davies and Avril Jones; secretary – Ann Hughes; treasurer – Ceinwen Roach; in charge of the tea and raffles – Doris and Glenys Jones; programme secretary – Gwen Davies and Ann Hughes; press reporter – Carol Thomas; representatives on the Village Welfare Committee – Gwen Davies and Carol Thomas.

At the end of the evening tea and bara brith were enjoyed by all and the monthly competition was held, namely ‘a pretty umbrella’. 

Mrs Wright was the adjudicator and the winner was Gwen Davies, with Ceinwen Roach in second place and Mary Davies in third place.

The next meeting will be held on Monday evening, 6 November, at Capel-y-groes Vestry when Donald Morgan, Blodau’r Bedol, Llanrhystud will be exhibiting his flower arranging skills – new members are welcome.
