WALES has recorded more than 12,000 new cases of coronavirus, according to the latest figures released today.
Across Wales, 12,378 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded, with the rate of infection now standing at over 1,000 cases per 100,000 population.
Gwynedd has recorded 452 new cases of Covid-19 today with Ceredigion recording 260 new cases.
Carmarthenshire has recorded 476 cases with Pembrokeshire recording 397 and Powys, 286.
Cardiff has recorded 1,595 new cases today.
No data has been released yet by Public Health Wales on how many of the new cases are the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
Three new deaths have been recorded in Wales today, taking the total number of suspected Covid-19 fatalities to 6,551.
One death has been recorded in the Hywel Dda Health Board region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, with the region’s total now standing at 628.
No new deaths have been recorded in the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board region of north Wales, with its total remaining at 1,128.
No new deaths have been recorded either in Powys, with its total remaining at 86.
New rules came into force across Wales on Boxing Day, which include a general requirement of two metre social distancing in all premises open to the public and workplaces, where reasonable.
The rule of six also applies to gatherings in regulated premises, such as hospitality, cinemas and theatres.
Table service and collecting contact details has also returned to licensed premises with the maximum number of people who can gather at an indoor event limited to 30 and 50 outdoors.
