HEALTH chiefs facing an overspend of £50m are reviewing services they provide after being warned by the Welsh Government that there will be no bailout.
Hywel Dda chiefs have admitted that they will not be able to balance the books in this financial year and have warned that problems in funding four general hospitals caused difficulties in the health board’s managing of its budget.
But the Welsh Government has insisted that it will not be providing financial bailouts for Hywel Dda or other boards that are likely to overspend, which are Betsi Cadwaladr, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg and Cardiff and Vale.
A spokesperson for the Welsh Government said: “Four health boards in Wales are forecasting financial deficits for the 2016/17 financial year. The financial outlook and failure to produce sustainable, approvable financial plans forms part of the decision-making to place these organisations into targeted intervention.
“The position in these four health boards is unacceptable and we have made it clear that we expect them to take action to significantly improve their financial position. We will not approve plans that do not deliver such improvements.
“It is the responsibility of individual NHS Wales organisations to manage their financial resources. Individual organisations who exceed their allocated resources, have not - and will not - be bailed out. We are working alongside all organisations to improve their respective positions."
