There is hardly an issue that irritates me more than career politicians or those aspiring to be so, leaping before the nearest camera to get a mugshot in a newspaper.
In last week’s Cambrian News, there is an article about Capel Bethania, Pistyll, that like many other similar institutions have witnessed the closing of its doors for the last time.
Only a few days ago a few local people decided to do something about it, setting up a web page with the intention of trying to raise funding to buy this iconic building, therefore saving it from becoming another second home. This is a commendable step worthy of praise from all of us who value its importance to our heritage.
Having said that, it was disappointing to read parts of the article that failed to mention the names of those who are truly fighting to save this chapel - Osian Williams and Anwen Thomasto mention just two; on the other hand publishing a comment that a Plaid Cymru Senedd candidate was somehow behind the scheme.
As a native of Pistyll since the age of four, I remember attending Sunday School there every week for several years, I also remember Tom Nefyn preaching there. I wish this group the best of luck in their attempt, hopefully local people and those further afield will contribute towards funding the project, as the old saying goes, ‘put your money where your mouth is’.
