The Capeli Cymru Project Team at the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales will be in the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, on May 9 to talk about their exciting work in preserving the nonconformist heritage of Wales and the different ways you can get involved.

The team would love to talk with people about both the open and former chapels of Aberystwyth and surrounding area. This includes members of open chapels who want to talk about their experiences, challenges, and suggestions in keeping chapels open, and those who would like to share their memories, photos, minute books, chapel crockery or other objects important to the chapel congregation.

They are also interested in talking to people who own former chapels, who can tell the team about their experience of converting of a historic building to a new use, or those who are simply interested in the future of these buildings.

Susan Fielding, Senior Investigator at the Royal Commission will be giving a free talk at 2pm on the ‘Welsh Nonconformist Chapels: History, Heritage and Preservation’.

The team have also launched a National Chapel Census which aims to create a clear picture of which chapels in Wales are open, closed, converted, or demolished. Everyone is welcome to contribute to this important work which takes 5 minutes to complete! The census is available on the project webpage: https://rcahmw.gov.uk/projects/capeli-cymru/capeli-cymru-census/
