THE owners of an Edern hotel have been prosecuted after a mouse infestation was discovered in the kitchen by hygiene inspectors.

Edwards Grimes and his wife Kathleen, who run the Woodlands Hall Hotel, were fined a total of £5,700 after pleading guilty to breaching food safety regulations.

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “During an inspection of the Woodlands Hall Hotel on 25 August 2015, officers from the council’s Public Protection Service came across a string of food hygiene offences, including a mouse infestation within the kitchen.

"Officers were of the opinion that the business posed an imminent risk to the health of customers. The business closed voluntarily until the urgent issues were addressed.

“Due to the severity of the offences, Gwynedd Council had little option but to prosecute the business.

"We are pleased that they acknowledged their failings by pleading guilty to 10 food hygiene offences at Caernarfon Magistrates Court on 26 October.

"Since this time, the business has made improvements and we hope that conformance with food hygiene regulations will now be maintained.”
