Madam,
Cllr Annwen Hughes is wrong to say that a Llanbedr bypass is vital to development at the airfield (Cambrian News letters, last week, ‘Just as determined to see vital Llanbedr bypass constructed’). It isn’t.
Cllr Hughes is also wrong to suggest that a Llanbedr bypass is necessary to reduce traffic congestion throughout the year. It isn’t.
Both of these objectives, together with improved pedestrian safety and better parking, can be achieved at a fraction of the cost of a bypass and without the devastation to the environment and village businesses and the increased risk of flooding in the village.
The solution is an access road directly to the airfield from the A496, a pedestrian footbridge and walkways (allowing the road bridge to be wider), yellow box hatching at the junctions, speed cameras and designated parking in the village. This has been dismissed by Gwynedd Council, of which of course Cllr Hughes is a member, without due consideration as they want a bypass.
I don’t know how Cllr Hughes can state that she represents the majority of people in the village as we have never been asked and as far as I am aware Cllr Hughes doesn’t even live here!
Yours etc
