A LLANUWCHLLYN actor is thrilled to appear on TV alongside his childhood heroes.

Meilir Rhys Williams will play young mechanic Rhys in S4C’s popular Welsh-language soap opera Rownd a Rownd from the end of the month.

Rhys works in the garage alongside his dad, John, who’s going through a bitter divorce with Rhys’ mum.

“Rhys would like an easy life — but that’s not to be,” Meilir said describing his new character.

“He’s mischievous but is content working as a mechanic. He doesn’t like confrontation but feels frustrated by his parents’ divorce.

“He’s trapped in the middle of their fighting and feels under pressure from his dad.”

Meilir has established himself as a stage actor, starring in productions with Sherman Cymru and Theatr Genedlaethol but Rownd a Rownd will be his first appearance in a long-running TV series.

“I’ve been watching Rownd a Rownd since I was a child, ever since the series first started.

“Joining the cast after watching for so long is a dream come true” the north Walian actor added.”

Meilir is the son of the late Derec Williams, one of the founding members of Theatr Maldwyn, a performing school based in the Bala and Montgomeryshire area.
