Travel schemes in Porthmadog, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Pwllheli have been awarded funding from the Welsh Government.
A total of almost £200,000 will be awarded to the three schemes, with Lee Waters, the Welsh Government’s deputy economy and transport minister, saying the 66 schemes across Wales that won funding had shown radical and ambitious attempts to encourage more people to walk and cycle.
The biggest funding award was for a scheme in Blaenau Ffestiniog which will see a disabled access ramp and pedestrian access improvements made at Tanygrisiau thanks in part to £92,000 funding provided by the Welsh Government.
In Porthmadog, a multi-use path from High Street to the leisure centre will receive £81,500 under the funding scheme.
Pwllheli will get crossing provision and improvements on the school active travel route after receiving £25,000.
Mr Waters said the Welsh Government wanted to see more schemes provided to help people get out of cars and to walk and cycle more.
He said: “We are facing a climate emergency, an obesity epidemic and an air quality crisis – active travel can help us address all of these.
“Across Wales we need to do things differently. I have been clear that we need to think big, show ambition and be radical.
“These projects are a step in the right direction to achieve the change we need, and we will continue to make significant investment to make active travel the obvious choice for more journeys in Wales.”
A total of £14.5m of funding from the Wales Infrastructure Investment Plan will be shared between projects across Wales. This is the second round of capital funding made available.
