A TEAM leader at a recycling centre for people with learning disabilities has been nominated for a national award due to her up-cycling efforts.

Julie Mundy (pictured), who works at Seren Cyf, Blaenau Ffestiniog, is one of 24 finalists to have been shortlisted for the new Cambrian Training Company Apprenticeship, Employment and Skills Awards 2017.

She has been nominated in the ‘Higher Apprentice of the Year’ category.

“I’m really chuffed to be nominated, lots of people know about Seren supporting adults with learning difficulties but it’s great that our hard work in recycling and re-use is being recognised,” Julie told the Cambrian News.

“My typical day here will be organising the vans to out to pick up donations of furniture, collect textiles from points in recycling centres, schools and municipal areas and deliver our sales.

“I love working with the service users up-cycling, we’ve a great project here transforming pieces of furniture that might otherwise end up in landfill. No two days are ever the same here, we never know what donations we are going to be offered."
