A DOLGELLAU councillor is concerned about large delivery vehicles taking the wrong route in town, labelling the situation as “an accident waiting to happen.”
Vehicles come into the town and then go on to the Marian Mawr Industrial Estate or make deliveries to shops, and Cllr Linda Morgan, who represents Dolgellau South on Gwynedd Council, believes clearer signs are needed at the top of Henfaes Hill and by the junction on the Fairbourne Road.
She said: “One vehicle that came down into the town needed to reverse back up.
“I was so concerned that he was reversing onto the main road that I asked someone to go up to the hill to guide him out safely.
“This is an accident waiting to happen. I have passed it on to Highways twice for advice it has now been passed on to another department who deals with the signs.
“Some of the lorry drivers take the wrong route and it is sometimes their sat navs that take them that way.
“If they come into the town down a road that isn’t suitable for them, they sometimes need to reverse back out the town.
“They can reverse back up the hill very well but this is something that, if better signage was in place, would not be necessary.”
Cllr Morgan believes ‘Unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles’ signs are needed for these two areas.
She added: “These signs are in other places across Wales and I think they are needed here.”
Gwynedd Council has been asked to comment.
