THE president, Eirwen James welcomed members to the second meeting of 2018.

Members were informed that the walks would resume on the fourth Wednesday in March, organised by Sally Corlett. Names were taken for those interested in attending the National Wales Conference in Cardiff or the mid Wales conference in Newtown. Teams for the book quiz being held in March were also noted. Tregaron WI had extended an invitation for any of our members interested to join them for a Drumming Workshop on Wednesday, 14 February. Names were taken.

Once the business was concluded Eirwen introduced Jonathan King, the speaker for the evening. Jonathan is widely known for producing organic wool socks at Garthenor, Llanio – the family farm. He gave a talk on the history of sock making as a cottage industry in the area during the First World War. Bethan Evans gave the vote of thanks for the interesting and informative talk and congratulated Jonathan on his success.

Over a cuppa Jonathan was invited to judge the competition for the best torch and the raffle was drawn.

The next meeting, a craft workshop making poppies, will be held on Wednesday, 7 February, in the Ganolfan, starting at 7.30pm.

New members are always welcome.
