Bowls

Machynlleth enjoyed an excellent week’s bowling in league and cup fixtures, in the week ended Sunday, 27 May.

Machynlleth progressed to the next round of the Welsh Bowling Association’s Carruthers’ Shield thanks to a thrilling 77-75 win at Newtown.

They will now travel to south Wales to play Thomastown on Saturday, 16 June.

Newtown will also be Machynlleth’s opponents in the second round of the Montgomeryshire League Cup, following the Llynlloedd men’s two-leg 168-135 first-round victory over Carno.

Machynlleth (six points) maintained their unbeaten run in division one of the Montgomeryshire County League, making it three wins from three with a 14-shot victory at home to previously unbeaten Berriew (one point).

Meanwhile, and joining in the fun, Machynlleth ladies received a fillip to their county ladies’ league campaign as they secured all nine league points from an 11-shot verdict at Llanidloes ladies.

In division two of the men’s county league, Maglona still await their first win of the season as, in a rain-reduced match, they lost by 32 shots at Llansantffraid, who collected the seven points available.

County Pool

MACHYNLLETH Marvels eased to a hard-fought 21-19 home victory against Wrexham Gwersyllt in this North Wales Interleague Division Two round five fixture, climbing to fourth place 16 points behind leaders Welshpool A.

However, also in division two, Machynlleth Môr-ladron lost heavily at Sports Lounge Dragons by 33 frames to 7.

Following round five, three Machynlleth players were listed in the division’s top-10 out of 68 players recorded.

Dewi Thomas, seven wins from nine frames, led the way but, with seven wins from 10 frames, was closely followed by Arwel Thomas and Robert Griffiths.

Sunny Sunday

COME along to enjoy a sunny Sunday impromptu orchestra at Plas Machynlleth on 24 June, starting at 2pm.

Conduct? Have a go? It’s easy and fun!

Sculpture Space

STILL available for viewing until Saturday, 23 June, in the sculpture space at MOMA Machynlleth is the exhibition by Rhodri Owen.

Rhodri’s hand-crafted furniture pieces are juxtaposed with pieces transformed by groups across Wales, supported by artists Manon Awst, Rebecca F Hardy, Christine Mills, Llyr Alun Jones, Bill Swann, Lisa-marie Tann, Catrin Williams, Pip Woolf and Kirstin Claxton. Marked, coloured gouged or disjointed – these pieces express how life experiences leave their mark on us all.

Mach Maethlon

ON Thursday, 7 June, experienced and budding gardeners assembled around the group’s edible table outside the Plas when, thanks to Petra Weinmann and Mach Maethlon, they were shown that weeds are not always the enemy – they can be useful in an organic garden.

Then, the following day, at the Bowling Club, Pete from the Green Goat Café showed attendees of Clwb Coginio how to use local seasonal products from the Mach Maethlon veg bag scheme to create simple, tasty dishes that inspire healthy eating.
