Planning committee
AT the meeting on Thursday, 5 December, Powys County Council’s planning committee received, for information, the following applications that had been approved by county planners under the council’s scheme of delegation, including those from the Dyfi Valley.
Erection of two dwellings, creation of a vehicular access and all associated works, plot 1 Pencaemawr, Penegoes; extension and alterations to existing dwelling, Ogof Fawr, Derwenlas; erection of a detached garage, T? Capel, Commins Coch; application under section 27 of the Electricity Act of 1989 for the erection of an 11kv high voltage overhead line, Nant yr Esgairwen, Talerddig; installation of ATM cash machine, including listed building consent, 5 Heol Penrallt, Machynlleth; listed building consent for the installation of a gas meter box to side elevation, 115 Heol Maengwyn, Machynlleth; works to trees in a conservation area, Railway Station, Machynlleth; application for a non-material amendment to planning approval P/2017/1342 to increase the garage size on plots 2 and 3 from single to double, land between 14 and 15 Ffordd Mynydd Griffiths, Machynlleth.
Festive lunch
MEMBERS of the Machynlleth and District branch of the Royal British Legion enjoyed a festive lunch in the Plas café on Saturday, 7 December.
Following the lunch, which was arranged to recognise the dedication shown by the Poppy Appeal and other events’ team, chair Stephen Doyle thanked branch secretary Tony Jones for his skills in organising the lunch and the Plas café staff for preparing the meal.
Bowlers AGM
WELCOMING an excellent attendance to the clubhouse for the bowling club’s AGM on Thursday, 12 December, club president Michael Williams led members in silent tribute to those who had passed away during the last 12 months.
He extended congratulations to all the bowlers for their commitment to the club’s four teams in the respective Montgomeryshire County Bowling Association’s leagues and divisions.
Machynlleth, for the 33rd time since the county league’s inaugural season in 1955, secured the men’s Division One championship and, in the Mid Wales Women’s county competitions, Meira Evans and Sue Mount (pairs’ finalists), Eileen Jones, Margaret Davies and Meira Evans (triples’ finalists) and Betty Fleming, Sue Mount, Yvonne Jones and Kyli Williams (fours’ semifinalists) kept the ladies’ flag flying.
Andrew Fleming had maintained his standing in the Welsh international team for the 22nd season and had also retained his place in the Welsh Bowls Association’s (WBA) Elite Squad.
Michael Rogers (chair) and Andrew Fleming (secretary) echoed the president’s words regarding the bowlers and thanked the committee, sub-committees, staff and greenkeepers for their hard work.
They also thanked the organisers of the weekly whist drives for their commitment in raising funds for local and national charities.
Treasurer Barry Fleming, before presenting the detailed annual accounts, which were received and approved with members’ grateful thanks, congratulated Mark Rowland on his successful captaincy in this county championship-winning season.
He said that the dedicated outdoor and indoor competitions’ organisers, worthy causes’ fundraisers, bar-staff, cleaners and whist committee and all others who’d helped in whatever way deserved our appreciation. He made mention of Betty Fleming and Debra Jones (cleaning and prize numbers), Llinos Griffiths and Kyli Williams (catering) and greenkeeper Thomas Jenkins.
Officers re-elected were: Michael Williams (president), Julian Fenwick (vice-president), Michael Rogers (chairman), Eryl Jones (vice-chairman), Andrew Fleming (secretary), Barry Fleming (treasurer). Mark Rowlands was elected club captain.
Committee members: Phil English, Betty Fleming, Llinos Griffiths, Justin Hinge, Alwyn Jones, Eileen Jones, Kevin Jones, Don Lewis, Elsbeth McAuley and Ali Nicoll.
Trustees re-elected were Michael Williams, Michael Rogers, John L Williams and Andrew Fleming.
Andrew Fleming was re-elected as the club’s representative on the county executive committee.
Also re-elected were the club’s auditors, Messer’s Major and Evans.
In closing the meeting, the president wished members a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Mach Maethlon
EDIBLE Mach Maethlon held their final gardening session of the year on Wednesday, 18 December, from 11am to 12.30pm.
The volunteers added more woodchip to the paths in the Plasbased show allotment and spent time weeding and tidying before enjoying tea and mince pies.
Matt Swan was standing down from the position of co-ordinator – a post he’d held since January 2018.
Matt said: “I’ve found it an immensely rewarding experience and it’s been a privilege to be part of Edible Mach Maethlon and help to make it all happen. I pass on my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to the project in any way these last couple of years. I’ll still be part of the committee.”
Ali Murfitt is the group’s new co-ordinator.
Ali has a background in ecology, community work and a love of all thing’s vegetable. She said: “I am delighted to be part of this inspiring project and look forward to working with all the volunteers that make this possible.”
