Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens
ON Thursday, 19 January, Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens met at the White Lion Hotel and heard of recent proposals by the group’s co-ordinator, Kate Doubleday.
Kate spoke of an exciting proposal that was being put forward by the hard-working volunteers. This would be to create an apothecary border of medicinal plants, which the committee was delighted to support.
Treasurer Jane Salisbury the detailed monthly accounts, which members received with many thanks. Members were told that Fiona Underhill would be leaving shortly to take-up a new appointment in Scotland.
Members conveyed their gratitude to Fiona for her outstanding commitment to the group’s Cae Glas-based gardens. They wished her very success in her new venture.
Concert
REFLECTIONS, a Valentine’s concert for precious memories in memory of Joan Reen, will be held at the Tabernacle on Saturday, 11 February, in aid of Bronglais Hospital cancer unit.
The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, features Deborah Rose and Mari Randle, Stephanie Windsor-Lewis, Robin Huw Bowen and Côr Meibion Bro Dysynni.

MEMBERS are holding their AGM at 2pm this Thursday, 26 January, at Machynlleth Bowling Club.
Civic Society
CHAIR Margaret Vince welcomed members of the Machynlleth and District Civic Society’s executive committee to the Tabernacle for the January bi-monthly meeting on Thursday, 19 January.
The secretary, Rab Jones, and treasurer John Wynne Jones reported on the demise of the Wales Civic Trust, which has gone into administration. After considerable discussion, it was agreed that this matter be put to the AGM on 18 May.
John then presented his report on the society’s bi-monthly accounts, which were approved with many thanks.There then followed consideration of two planning applications, namely, to form a gypsy and traveller site on land adjoining the cemetery, Newtown Road, and change of use for the Vane Hall, Heol Pentrerhedyn. It was agreed that a letter of ‘no comment’ be sent to Powys County Council regarding both applications.
Captain Richard Lambert gave details of a planning applications for change of use of Glasfryn in connection with the Museum of Modern Art that had been approved recently.
The secretary advised that more information was likely to be to hand for the March meeting concerning proposals to provide a new bridge over the River Dyfi and associated works. He also reported on support that the society was giving to Swansea University’s project to list all war memorials and plaques in Wales.
Barbara Walker told members of a most interesting and important find that had come into her possession of an album of photos of Plas Machynlleth in the 1870s and ‘80s.
The chair, in closing the meeting, announced that the next meeting will be at the Tabernacle on Thursday, 16 March, starting at 7pm.
Hear to Help
THE next Hear to Help drop-in clinic is on Friday, 3 Feburary, at the Care Centre, Forge Road, from 10am to midday.NHS hearing aid wearers can visit this Action on Hearing Loss Cymru service for friendly help with cleaning their aids, new tubes and free batteries. The clinic is run by trained volunteers on the first Friday of each month.

Pool
FOLLOWING round nine on Thursday, 12 January, it was level-pegging for the joint leaders in Division One of the Machynlleth Pool League.
Llew Coch A ended the round in joint top spot after a one-frame (8-7) victory at home to Tredegar Arms to join White Lion, who were without a game. Skinners Arms kept pace with a comfortable 10-5 home win over Llew Coch B.
Llew Coch Dinas secured their first win of the season, beating visitors White Horse 9-6. Rugby Club A and Dwynant completed the division’s fixtures as Rugby Club took the spoils with a thrilling 8-7 home success.

Foresters ensured third place as they won 9-6 at Wynnstay Arms. Meanwhile Slaters also gained a useful 9-6 result over visitors Llew Coch ladies.
