Whist

A SUCCESSFUL whist drive was held in Machynlleth Bowling Club on Monday, 9 October when £250 was raised for the benefit of the patients of Machynlleth Hospital and Cartref Dyfi.

The League of Friends of the Machynlleth Hospital and Cartref Dyfi would like to thank all who donated prizes, attended and helped during the evening.

Co-op Community Event

A CO-OP community event will be held at Plas Machynlleth on Saturday, 21 October, from 11am-1pm.

The public is invited to come along to say what’s important to them and their community. They will also have a Members’ Council, so you can meet your local representative and get an update on the performance of the business.

Quiz fundraising

MACHYNLLETH Bowling Club’s support of local organisations saw the local scouts benefit to the tune of £100 from the latest in a series of club-based quiz sheets.

The winner of the £20 prize was Gerry Ritchie from Cheshire.

The new quiz sheet, which is now available in the clubhouse, is in support of the Machynlleth Hurricanes Junior Football Club.

County Pool

THE town’s two teams in the North Wales Interleague both suffered defeat in the final round of fixtures on Sunday, 8 October.

Finishing sixth in division one, Machynlleth A lost at home to third-placed Bangor Blues by 25 frames to 15.

And, taking up fourth place in division two, Machynlleth B also lost by a ten-frame margin at South Flintshire B.

Music Club

THE Music Club opens its 52nd season with a concert given by the Alberni Quartet on Friday, 20 October, 7.30pm at Y Tabernacl Machynlleth.

The Alberni has been considered one of Britain’s foremost chamber ensembles for over half a century. Karin Leishman and Matthew Souter are long-standing members of the quartet and will be joined by cellist Richard May and Iva Fleischansova, violin.

Rail AGM

RECEIVING a warm welcome from acting chair Ivor Morris, members of the Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth Rail Passengers’ Association (SARPA) held their AGM 2017 at the White Lion Hotel Machynlleth on Saturday, 7 October. Officers/committee elected for the next 12 months were: Jeff Smith (Aberystwyth), chair; Ivor Morris (Welshpool), vice-chair; Tony Harvey (Welshpool) treasurer and membership secretary; Denis Bates (Aberystwyth), newsletter editor; Roger Goodhew (Shrewsbury), liaison officer; Angus Eickhoff (Machynlleth), webmaster; Robert Knight (Machynlleth) and Bill Redfern, committee members.

Cllr Michael Williams represents Machynlleth town and Powys County Council.
