Ambient Music

PLAS Machynlleth will be the venue for an ambient music day, which will feature the Glissando Guitar Orchestra, also, Sky Dancer, Shankara, Silence in Sound, Jah Buddha, Modulator ESP, Nuklite and Kubis.

The event takes place on Saturday, 21 April, from 11am until 11.30pm.

Air Ambulance fund-raiser

AS part of its commitment to the community, and in partnership with Machynlleth Hurricanes Junior Football Club and Plant-i, Machynlleth Bowling Club is holding an evening with superstar footballer Lee Trundle on Saturday, 21 April.

The evening’s entertainment starts at 7.30pm and also features comedian Bill Woolland.

Tickets are available from the bowling club (01654 702628), and all money raised going to the Wales Air Ambulance and Machynlleth Hurricanes.

Mach U3A

THE next meeting of Machynlleth U3A – university of the third age – will be held in local bowling club at 2pm on Friday, 20 April.

The afternoon’s guest speaker, David Probert, will be giving a talk on the ‘History of Madness’.

British Legion Machynlleth and District

ON Tuesday 6 March the RBL meeting was opened by chairman Stephen Doyle when a minute’s silence was observed in remembrance of Rev Canon Martin Riley who passed away recently.

The minutes of the December meeting were read out by secretary Anthony Jones and were accepted as a true record.

Poppy Appeal organiser Stephen Doyle informed members that £3,600 had been collected this year.

Armed Forces Day in Llandudno – Organiser Anthony Jones, informed the members that the bus would leave the White Lion Hotel at 8am on 30 June, and depart Llandudno at 4pm.

Centenary of WWI Event – Gwyn Roberts, chairman of the Machynlleth and Tywyn Royal Welch Fusiliers Comrades and ex Comrades Association informed the meeting that the Rose Garden at Plas Machynlleth will change to a Garden of Remembrance, a move that has the full support of the Machynlleth Town Council. Gwyn hopes to get community grants to help finance the project and to get local schools involved. He hopes it will be open on 10 November.

Stephen Doyle informed members that he had received a cheque for £700 from other RBL branches to go to the GP90 (Great Pilgrimage 90 years ago) ceremony in Belgium with. Stephen told members that the Machynlleth standard would be taken, and a wreath from the branch placed at the Menin Gate in Belgium. He hopes that local schoolchildren will write a message on the wreath. The sub branch from Tywyn will also be sending two members to Belgium, and their standard and wreath. Stephen then welcomed new member Ann James to the branch.

The date for the RBL dinner, after the poppy appeal on 17 November, was agreed by all.

Rail AGM

RAILFUTURE Wales hosted the Cambrian Division AGM in Canolfan Owain Glyndwr Centre, on Saturday 24 March.

Chairman Dylan Lewis expressed his pleasure at such good representation of members from both the Cambrian Coast line and the Cambrian main line, which augured well for the future.

He said that, together with secretary/treasurer David Taylor, he’d been to a number of meetings to impress the group’s support for enhancements wherever and whenever needed, including the impending new Wales and Borders franchise.

Secretary/treasurer David Taylor endorsed the chairman’s words and went on to say that, due to the centralisation of the group’s accounts, there would be no need to appoint a treasurer going forward.

A member gave an excellent presentation on the ongoing campaign to reopen the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen railway line, which included Welsh Government’s funding for a full feasibility study.

Machynlleth councillor Michael Williams, who represents Powys and Machynlleth councils on a number of railway organisations, gave an update on the near completion of work to close a number of level crossings in the Talerddig area.

Bingo fund-raiser

A prize bingo at the Machynlleth Bowling Club raised £635 for the Wales Air Ambulance (WAA) on 23 March.

Mach Maethlon

Friday, 6 April, saw another successful Clwb Coginio at the Machynlleth Bowling Club when Mach Maethlon were pleased to welcome Claire from the Green Goat Café.Clare demonstrated the art of making Florentines to budding and experienced cooks.

Another well-known chief, Mikhael, will be leading a session on making vegan blueberry and almond muffins at the Bowling Club on Thursday, 12 April, 6pm to 8pm.

Annual Meeting

CANOLFAN Owain Glyndwr Centre will be holding its annual general meeting in the Centre’s Powys Room on Tuesday, 17 April, at 7pm. This is a public meeting to which all are welcome.
