THE latest community news from New Quay.

Camera Club

THIS week’s meeting of the Camera Club, was an informative meeting, when members brought along three of their ‘less than perfect’ images, either as prints or PDIs, for advice from members, as to how they might be improved.

Twenty four images were viewed, with many interesting comments and solutions expressed.

The next meeting, on 19 January, will be a presentation by member Brian Ottewell, entitled ‘What we and our cameras see’ and is guaranteed to be an interesting experience. Potential new members and friends are very welcome to join us.

Pantomime

ONCE again, on Friday, 6 January, the Memorial Hall held its annual pantomime for the local community. This year, the performance of Cinderella was given again by Gerry Graham Productions, now regular visitor to the hall, and are a professional group from various parts of the country comprising of a cast of two girls and four men (including, in this performance, the two ugly sisters).

The disappointing below average audience of about 65 adults and children provided the usual pantomime atmosphere and responses with the usual cries of “Look out, behind you”, “Oh, yes it is; oh! no it isn’t” which, at some occasions, almost “raised the roof”.

The organisers would like to thank all who helped in any way, as voluntary helpers on the night, donations for the raffle, financial support through donations or sponsorship.

All profits made on the night will be added to the hall funds which enable the hall to be kept open and maintained for the benefit of the local community and the surrounding area.

Frostbite Sailing

THE first event of the New Quay Yacht Club Frostbite winter dinghy sailing series was held on Sunday, 15 January.

Strong north-westerly winds were forecast which put some crews off travelling to New Quay. True to form, the bad forecast did not materialise and the seven dinghies that took part in the two races enjoyed close competition and a good start to 2017 racing.

Results: Race 1: 1 Nick James, D-Zero; 2 Crawford Mcleary, Laser; 3 Louise Zlotnicki, Mirror. Race 2: 1 Nick James; 2 Crawford Mcleary; 3 Tim Jeremy, Blaze. The next event is on 29 January, two races, First Gun 10.55am. All dinghy sailors are welcome to join in this open series.
