A CONSULTATION has been launched in Ceredigion on the county council’s local toilet strategy.

The consultation will give people the chance to have their say on public toilets in the county.

The feedback from this consultation will help to develop a strategy that will make suitable public convenience provision across the county.

The council is required to publish a local toilet strategy under the Public Health (Wales) Act 2017.

The Cabinet member responsible for economy and regeneration, Cllr Rhodri Evans, said: “Access to toilets is an issue that affects public health.

“A lack of adequate toilet facilities has considerable impact on a person’s physical and mental health and are important to certain groups within society.

“The poor provision of toilets could contribute to social isolation and inactivity as well as affecting people’s ability to maintain independence and dignity in later life.

“Accessible, clean toilets in the right places can encourage people to take exercise and stay physically active.”

Last year it was reported that toilets were under threat from budget cuts.

Across the UK, at least 1,541 of these conveniences were closed.

The British Toilet Association has started a campaign called Use Our Loos to encourage businesses to open their toilets to non-­customers and make this known by displaying a sticker.

The public consultation will close on 25 February.
