A Gwynedd Council worker who shared a minibus with colleagues following a night out has tested positive for coronavirus.
The chief executive of the council has written to staff to highlight the “serious issue” and to ensure it does not happen again.
Dilwyn Williams said: “I recently found out about a case where staff working together within one of the council’s services decided to go for a night out together in a minibus.
“One of them has since tested positive for Covid-19 and as a result they have all had to self-isolate for 14 days.
“This has caused a risk of the council not being able to continue with the key service they were responsible for and costing us extra as we ensure continuity of service.
“We need to be clear that such behaviour – which is contrary to social distancing rules – is completely unacceptable, and there will be implications for these individuals.”
The bulletin continues: “While accepting that the lockdown period has been difficult for everyone, and that we all find the need to socialise, it is essential that we all keep to the rules.
“The virus has not gone away and there is a danger that we will see an increase in cases over the coming weeks. I therefore urge you all to maintain social distancing and keep to the rules when meeting others – to protect yourself and your loved ones, but also to maintain the council’s ability to ensure that services are protected.
“Of course, if the Test, Track and Protect service contacts you, instructing you to self-isolate because you have been in contact with a person who has tested positive, it is important that you comply with the guidance given and that you contact your manager to tell them what you are required to do.
“I thank you in advance for keeping to these instructions.”
