CEREDIGION Council has failed to maintain bus shelters and will struggle to persuade community councils to take them on, it has been warned.

Cllr Gethin James has been demanding answers over who is responsible for a range of bus shelters erected as part of a Welsh Government scheme.

He has insisted that the shelters had been allowed to get into a incredibly poor condition, especially ones on the A487.

He has now had it confirmed by Welsh Government Transport Minister Edwina Hart that while the Welsh Government paid for the shelters under the Quality Bus Routes scheme, Ceredigion Council was responsible for maintaining them for a five-year period, something he insists has not been done.

The county council is currently carrying out an audit of shelters and is considering asking community councils to take over the maintenance and upkeep of shelters in a cost-cutting measure.
