A MEIRIONNYDD man will walk, run and scramble the length of Wales next week to raise money in memory of his unborn daughter.
Starting on Monday, Dan Stevens from Aberdyfi, and a group friends and family, will take part in the Leg It Challenge – a mammoth attempt to get from Conwy to Cardiff, some 200 miles, in just six days.
Dan is raising money for Hope House and Ty Gobaith children’s hospices after the counselling and bereavement support he and his wife Kate received last year after their daughter Maddie died before she could be born in May 2020.
They started having weekly sessions shortly after and found working with the team such a comfort.
“The support we received from the counsellors was incredible,” said Dan. “Due to the pandemic, the sessions have been carried out virtually over video calls, but we have both hugely benefitted from the ability to speak to professionals who have helped us to keep going through something we can never have imagined would happen to us.”
Dan, an outdoor instructor, has been training with the Leg It team for months and they have already raised more than £10,000, which will be split between Hope House and Ty Gobaith and child loss charity 4Louis.
“The training has gone well on the whole,” said Dan. “There have been ups and downs but I’m ready and excited to get started and raise as much awareness of stillbirths as we can, as well as raise much-needed money for the charities as they were invaluable to us at our time of need.”
The Leg It Challenge starts on 16 August with the team setting off from Conwy Castle. If you would like to contribute to fund, please visit www.uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/LegIt1
