Families visiting Glaslyn Ospreys near Porthmadog will be able to learn about the wonderful wildlife along the Afon Glaslyn at an event on Bank Holiday Sunday (30 August).
Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife volunteers will be on hand at the ‘Moths, Mini-beasts and More’ event at Glaslyn Ospreys to search for different species. Moths caught overnight will be on display before they are released back into the wild, and there will be an opportunity to search for lizards, bugs and identify various butterflies. The event will run from 11am to 3.30pm
There should also be opportunities to see ospreys before they leave on their winter migration to West Africa.
A total of seven chicks were hatched on the three nests which can now be viewed from the Centre at Pont Croesor. The adult female birds are usually the first to leave followed by their offspring who set off, one by one, on their 3000-mile migration. The adult male birds are usually the last to leave, once they know their family members have all left the Glaslyn Valley.
Over 10,000 people have so far visited Glaslyn Ospreys this season to see the birds of prey. The Centre is open 10:30 to 16:30 every day until Sunday 13 September.
