THE chairman of Penrhyncoch Football Club has warned the club may be left with “no option” but to close a footpath running alongside the team’s Cae Baker ground after three piles of dog mess were found on the pitch hours before a game.

Dog fouling has continued to blight the ground for several years, with the club issuing pleas through the Cambrian News, but chairman Kevin Jenkins has warned that with dog mess appearing on the pitch he now had a “duty of care” to the players.

Mr Jenkins, who slammed “irresponsible” dog owners who let their pets foul on the pitch - depositing faeces which carries infections and diseases - said that the footpath would be closed if the issue didn’t ease.

The path, which runs alongside Cae Baker, is used by schoolchildren and parents during term-time but is also a popular route for dog-walkers.

The latest dog fouling incident could lead to the path, which the council told the Cambrian News was not a public right of way, being closed by locking the gates at either end.

Mr Jenkins said: “When marking the pitch on Friday afternoon, and while committee members were on the pitch on Saturday morning, no less than nine separate pieces of dog mess had to be dealt with."
