Mair Hughes, headteacher of Ysgol Penglais, is delighted with the outcome of a recent inspection that has led to the school being removed from a list of those requiring significant improvement.

She said: “All staff in the school have worked tirelessly and relentlessly to improve standards of teaching and learning, behaviour and student progress at Penglais.

"I am very pleased that the inspectors recognise the impact that the hard work has had on supporting students in making the progress they deserve.”

“It also recognises the respectful and hard-working students we have at Penglais and the good progress they make, with some making rapid progress.

"It is a pleasure to work with the excellent staff and students within the school and we will continue to work hard to ensure that we are the happy, ambitious and high-achieving school of our vision.”

Cllr Catrin Miles, Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet member responsible for learning services, said: “This is a great achievement and shows that the hard work of students and staff at Ysgol Penglais is improving standards.

"I’m sure that Ysgol Penglais will go from strength to strength in the future under strong and ambitious leadership.”

Inspectors found that leadership across the school has improved with strong systems now in place making sure that the school progresses quickly. This has led to improvements in the achievements of students, standards of behaviour and student attendance.
