SAVVY students across Dwyfor and Meirionnydd have been congratulated on their A-level results.

As A-level results were announced last Thursday, Gwynedd Council was first in line to applaud the county’s pupils on their results.

Over one in five pupils sitting their exams achieved an A grade or better (22.8 per cent).

Cllr Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet member for education, said: “We can take pride in the success of our young people. The students are to be congratulated for their dedication and perseverance. I would also like to offer my sincere gratitude to the teachers for their hard work during the year and for preparing students so thoroughly for the examinations.

“I would like to wish all the very best to our young people as they make their choices for the next steps in their careers.”

Garem Jackson, head of education for Gwynedd Council, stated that he was very pleased with the A-level results of students in Gwynedd secondary schools.

He said: “The percentage achieving grades A*-E across all subjects was very good again this year.

“The percentage achieving a grade A or better is 22.8 per cent, and the percentage gaining A*-E grades is 100 per cent across the majority of subjects.

“This is pleasing and reflects the support and guidance provided for our young people.”

Ysgol y Berwyn, Bala headteacher Andrew Roberts was thrilled with his schools’ grades.

“We congratulate all our pupils on reaching their grades which have given them a platform to move on to the next stage in their careers and wish them the best in whichever area they choose to follow,” he said.

“Thanks also to the teaching staff who have worked hard to ensure that the pupils have reached their target grades.”

Building on the success of previous years, 109 learners achieved the top A* or A grade, with 27 per cent of learners achieving A*-A grade at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Dolgellau campus.

The group overall pass rate of 97.6 per cent is above the national Welsh average, and has enabled many learners to progress to leading universities, higher apprenticeships or employment.

Newly-appointed principal of Coleg Menai and Meirion-Dwyfor, Aled Jones-Griffith, said: “I am delighted for our students and would like to congratulate them on their hard work and excellent A-level results, and wish them every success in the future.”
