ABERYSTWYTH University students have approved a plan to raid the bank accounts of inactive and abandoned societies and sports clubs.

A meeting in November heard that around 60 clubs and societies at the university had bank accounts that are inactive, with around three quarters having money “sitting there doing nothing”.

The union meeting heard that “it is very unlikely that a lot of these societies and sports clubs will restart up this year.”

Kelly Keat, the union’s activities officer, said that it was “a waste to have money sat in these accounts not doing anything.”
