Cylch Meithrin Talgarreg has received the highest status possible in an Estyn inspectors’ report.

The Cylch was praised for its current and forecasted performance – both being ‘excellent’. This means that the Cylch has many strengths, including significant examples of practice that lead the sector.

The Meithrin, which offers Foundation Phase education through the medium of Welsh, was inspected in November by Estyn’s lead inspector, Huw Watkins.

Among the praise in the report, Mr Watkins said that staff “plan incredibly stimulating learning activities for the children that keep their attention and are of great interest to them.”

As a result, he said, the children made very good progress in developing their skills across the areas of learning, especially in terms of literacy, numeracy and the Welsh language.

“The classroom and the outdoor environment are safe and extremely attractive places for the children, and are those that promote learning very effectively,” he added.

An ‘excellent’ status was received for each part of the inspection, including standards, wellbeing, learning experiences, teaching, care, the learning environment, and partnerships with the community and authorities.

Cerys Lloyd, chair of the Cylch, said: “I would like to thank Mair Jenkins, our leader; Carol and Wendy, our staff; Vanessa Bowen, our associate teacher; and the committee for their tireless work to ensure that the children of Talgarreg and the surrounding area receive first-class education.

“Thanks also to the parents for trusting us to educate and care for their children, and to the community for their support at all times.”
