Machynlleth Town Council must take urgent action to fell some trees on the Plas estate, including one overhanging a nursery, councillors have been warned.

There has been a range of issues with trees in an unsafe condition at the Plas and a tree survey has shown that several trees need attention.

Clerk Jim Griffiths warned that action must be taken quickly now to ensure that trees do not fall, causing potential injury or damage, as he said the council’s insurance would not cover any such incidents.

Councillors have now agreed to use funding from the town council’s Plas Trust Fund to carry out the work.

In a report to the council’s September meeting, Mr Griffiths said: “The tree survey that was commissioned by Machynlleth Town Council last year has highlighted a number of trees that should have been totally removed due to the state of them at the time of the survey.

“Recent incidences of ‘sudden bough drop’ have occurred within the Plas estate.

“Luckily these have not caused any injury or damaged.

“One of these incidents happened this week to a tree that was earmarked for attention.”
