The first fair of three to be held in Pontrhydfendigaid to raise money for the village nursery and school was a “wonderful success”, raising £500.

Held on 9 October at Neuadd Pantyfedwen, the craft fair saw more than 20 tables of crafters, artists and makers pack the hall.

The event included a raffle, refreshments and activities for children including face-painting.

The fairs have been organised by Laura Jones, who said that it was important to begin raising money again for the Cylch Meithrin and Ysgol Gymunedol Pontrhydfendigaid, after the coronavirus pandemic meant fund-raising came to a halt.

“The kids still need the funds,” Laura said.

“Our Cylch Meithrin takes kids from two years old, so has children now that have spent the majority of their lives in lockdown.

“The school has worked tirelessly with the pupils and parents throughout the lockdowns to ensure their educations are delivered, so we can agree they are beyond worthy of our support.

“We wanted to create an event that could benefit our wonderful local businesses such as our crafters, artists and makers, as well as our Cylch Meithrin and School.

“Saturday was a wonderful success and we have already raised £350 on the day, and we have received an additional £150 from one of our sponsors, meaning we have £500 so far for the Cylch Meithrin and School, and another two wonderful Fairs to go.”

Sponsors of the fair included Hendre Stone, Wyn Davies Electrical, Beauty of Success, Penrhiw Campsite, Blodela, Mountain Moor

The next fairs will be held on 13 November and 11 December from 10am to 4pm.
