Madam,

It’s fantastic news that a transport interchange is going to be built at Dolgellau, thanks to Welsh Government investment. We need something similar at Machynlleth and/or Tywyn, where there are train and bus services that should be linked.

As far as Machynlleth is concerned, why not build an interchange between the bus depot and train station, retaining the old bridge for public transport users and light traffic, with lorries and vans to go over a bypass bridge? This would reduce congestion and danger to pedestrians and the bypass route would always be there for all to avoid flooding.

The bypass bridge option is proposed by Tywyn councillors in a rare show of unanimity, while my proposal would not discourage shopping in Machynlleth, the great fear of councillors there.

It’s plain common sense that our train and bus services should be interlinked. With fuller schedules and the convenience of physical interchange, we could do so much more to serve the people and create desperately needed jobs in this part of Wales.

Yours etc,

Quentin Deakin, Labour Party county council candidate for Tywyn.
