A public meeting to discuss Llanbedr’s scrapped bypass scheme will take place tomorrow (Friday)

Villagers have organised the meeting, at 2pm , to show their continued support for the scheme, despite the Welsh Government’s decision to scrap the plan for climate change reasons.

The meeting will take place in hangar two at Llanbedr Airfield and will be chaired by Cllr Annwen Hughes.

Speakers will include MS Mabon Ap Gwynfor, representatives from national and local government, the community and the aerospace industry.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Carl Kiz said: “We organised this protest meeting because the government’s decision did not look at all the evidence. Our road was using local stone and was to save 3 per cent CO2 over current levels yet the minister who made the decision didn’t look at that evidence. Nor did they consider the community’s needs, or indeed health and safety of residents”

“A road 10 times bigger down South was given the go ahead days before ours was cancelled, yet ours had a greater need, was part funded by the EU, and was to support us as one of the most disadvantaged in the UK. The decision was mono-dimensional and we feel a legal challenge is necessary to prove the decision was corrupted by the need to show off at COP26, in essence Llanbedr has been greenwashed.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.

Covid rules will be followed and transport is available from the village centre from 1pm.

If you are unable to attend you can still show your support by signing the petition at petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/245002.
