I am English and have lived in the wonderful county of Gwynedd for the last 45 years.
This county derives a good proportion its income from tourism. It has been robbed of that income by the imposition of a lockdown by the UK government and the longer this goes on the more impoverished the indigenous people for whom I have a great admiration will become.
That this virus is highly contagious is not open to dispute, but the government propaganda which focuses on death has frightened the UK witless. It is becoming increasingly evident that the infection for those under 60 with no underlying heath conditions produces a mild reaction. The likelihood of death for that category of people is considerably less that winning the lottery. For those in the vulnerable category or those who the propaganda has frightened into submission, they can always reduce the risk by continuing to isolate.
We need the lockdown to end to rescue what we can of the tourist season. The Welsh Government has taken a different path from the UK. Unfortunately they have been much more timid. It is high time they asserted themselves and show the courage of Owain Glynd?r and declared this lockdown ended. Winston Churchill once declared that ‘Fear is reaction, Courage is making a decision’. We could give the UK government the two-fingered salute the Welsh bowmen gave the French at the battle of Agincourt.
