RESIDENTS in Powys interested in the First World War have a fantastic opportunity to attend an event taking place on Saturday, 10 November.

The Powys War Memorials Project supports the Royal Welch Fusiliers Comrades in organising a fun day out at the Plas in Machynlleth and at the town football pitch.

Representatives from Royal Welch Fusiliers Comrades, ambulance and police service, and many more will be on hand to demonstrate how their services ran 100 years ago.

A wide range of activities will be on offer for children at the event, including face painting and a seven-a-side knockout competition to mark the end of the First World War and the famous match in which the regiment took part in 1914.

A local band will kick off an evening’s entertainment.

Cllr Martin Weale, Cabinet member for regeneration and planning, said: “We are delighted to support such a great event in Powys, as it gives people an opportunity to learn more about the First World War and the impact it had on our local communities here in Powys.”
