A MEIRIONNYDD harbourmaster has taken up a new role with the Welsh Ambulance Service.
Glyn Jones has been Barmouth Harbourmaster for the last 16 years.
Gwynedd Council said all Glyn’s colleagues are appreciative of his work and support.
“His professional qualifications, maritime experience and his depth of knowledge of the harbour waters at Abermaw has been invaluable to the many harbour customers he has helped over his years of service with the Maritime Department of Gwynedd Council,” a council spokesperson said.
“Apart from his everyday duties as harbourmaster, Glyn has overseen many events and projects held in the harbour and on the beach over the years, including the Three Peaks Yacht Race, Paddle Sports Festival, food festival and an annual motocross event held on Abermaw beach,
to name a few.
“The health and safety of those members of the public enjoying the facilities within his working environment has always been a priority for Glyn, and apart from his water-based duties and responsibilities, he could often be seen providing first aid to persons in need of medical assistance on the harbour or guiding a lost child on the beach to the safe custody of the parents.
“During his time as harbourmaster, Glyn has also been an active community first responder team leader.
“Glyn has been a respected and valued team member of Gwynedd Council’s Maritime Department and has served both as an assistant harbourmaster and as a harbourmaster at Abermaw, a position he held for the last 16 years.
“Whilst he will be missed by his working colleagues, friends and harbour customers, he is wished well in his new role with the Welsh Ambulance Service.”
Barmouth Town Council said on Facebook: “Glyn Jones, Barmouth’s Harbourmaster, has moved on to pastures new.
“He has worked on the harbour since 2004, in a variety of different roles. His support has been invaluable over the years with day-to-day
jobs plus events including the Three Peaks Yacht Race, Paddlesports Festival, food festival, community bonfire...the list is endless!
“We thank him for all of his hard work over the last 16 years and wish him luck for the future.”
