Bronglais Hospital’s A&E department was the best performing in the Hywel Dda area last month in seeing patients within four hours, although the hospital failed to hit the target of 95 per cent of patients seen within this timeframe.
But the figures for cancer patients in the Hywel Dda area starting treatment within the 62-day target showed a dramatic drop in September to 67.2 per cent, down from 84.7 per cent in June.
Figures for October 2019 revealed that Hywel Dda was the second best performing health board in Wales for the percentage of patients seen in its A&E departments inside four hours, at 76.9 per cent, although the board did not meet the overall target. However, that was an improvement on the figure for September.
The statistics show that in Bronglais, 82.3 per cent of the 2,537 A&E patients were seen inside four hours, compared to 77.1 per cent in Withybush and 73.2 per cent in Glangwili, although both Withybush and Glangwili had more patients attending the A&E.
The Hywel Dda performance was only behind Cardiff and Vale Health Board, which saw 80.7 per cent of patients inside four hours. The worst performing health board was troubled Betsi Cadwaladr where its A&E departments saw just 60.6 per cent of patients inside four hours.
However, that was actually an improvement on the figure for September where just 60.1 per cent of Betsi Cadwaladr A&E patients were seen inside four hours. The Welsh average was 75.3 per cent.
