TWENTY deaths and over 2,500 new cases have been recorded in Wales today according to the latest Covid-19 figures.

New figures released this lunch time by Public Health Wales show that 2,576 new cases of the virus have been recorded nationwide with the rate of infection creeping up again, now standing at 504.9.

Gwynedd has recorded 200 cases today, the third highest daily figure in Wales behind Cardiff and Swansea.

Carmarthenshire has recorded 152 new cases, with 124 in Pembrokeshire and 90 in Powys.

Ceredigion has again recorded the lowest daily figure for a public authority in Wales with 35 new cases recorded.

In the last seven days, Carmarthenshire has recorded 1,026 new cases of coronavirus, with Gwynedd not far behind, recording 961 cases.

703 cases have been recorded in Powys over the last week with 634 in Pembrokeshire.

Ceredigion over the same period has recorded 192 new cases.

Two of the 20 deaths recorded today have been in the Hywel Dda Health Board region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Powys, with the total number of Covid-19 related fatalities now standing at 599.

Ten deaths have been recorded in the Hywel Dda region over the last seven days according to the official statistics.

Powys Health Board has also recorded two deaths today, with its total now standing at 82.

No new deaths have been recorded in Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board’s region of north Wales, with its total remaining at 1,091 – with four recorded deaths in the last seven days.

Across Wales, 6,334 deaths have now been recorded since the start of the pandemic.

The national rate of infection currently stands at 504.9 but figures vary across the country.

The rate in Gwynedd currently stands at 694.4 cases per 100,000 population and 548.2 in Powys.

Carmarthenshire also has a similar rate of 541.9 with Pembrokeshire’s rate standing at 437.1.

Ceredigion’s current rate however is the lowest in Wales, standing at 258.6 cases per 100,000 population.
