A dozen deaths and over 2,000 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across Wales today – but the rate of infection continues to drop.

Across Wales today, 2,134 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded, according to the latest figures released by Public Health Wales this lunchtime.

Of those new cases, 140 have been recorded in Gwynedd, the highest daily number in over a week for the county.

37 new cases have been recorded in Ceredigion.

Carmarthenshire has recorded 146 new cases today with Pembrokeshire recording 74 and Powys, 95.

Three deaths have been recorded in the Hywel Dda Health Board region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, taking the total number of Covid-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic to 587.

Two deaths have been recorded in the Betsi Cadwaladr region of north Wales, taking the area’s total to 1,087.

No new deaths have been recorded in Powys, with the total remaining at 80.

Across Wales, 6,272 Covid-19 deaths have now been recorded.

Figures collected by the Office for National Statistics, put that number much higher however.

The ONS has collected data on all deaths registered where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate and the total number of deaths according to those figures is 8,643.

Hywel Dda’s total number of death certificates mentioning Covid-19 is 828, with 293 death certificates in Powys mentioning the virus and 1,602 in the Betsi Cadwaladr region.
