NEW cases of coronavirus have been recorded across several counties in Wales today – but the country hasn’t recorded a death this week.

Wales has recorded 140 new cases of coronavirus today, but no deaths have been recorded since Sunday with the total number of Covid-19 related fatalities in Wales remaining at 5,572 since the start of the pandemic.

Ceredigion has recorded two new cases today with Pembrokeshire recording eight.

Carmarthenshire has recorded three new cases today while Gwynedd has recorded five, according to data released this lunch time by Public Health Wales.

Powys has not recorded a single case today.

The rise in daily cases over the last few weeks has led health chiefs at Hywel Dda University Health Board to issue a plea to people to get tested if they display symptoms.

Previously, only those with either a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss/change of taste and smell, were advised to seek a test.

People with any of the following wider symptoms that are persistent and/or unusual for them are also strongly encouraged to get a PCR test:

• Mild summer cold type symptoms – including sore throat, runny nose, headache

• Flu-like symptoms, including myalgia (muscle ache or pain); excessive tiredness; persistent headache; runny nose or blocked nose; persistent sneezing; sore throat and/or hoarseness, shortness of breath or wheezing

• Generally feeling unwell and a history of being in contact with a known Covid-19 case

• Any new or change in symptoms following a previous negative test

If you have any of the above symptoms, please stay home and book a PCR test through the UK portal https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or ringing 119.
