OVER 5,000 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across Wales according to the latest figures.

Data released today by Public Health Wales, which covers a 48-hour period up to 9am on Sunday, shows that 5,258 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded along with 17 new deaths.

The rate of infection is also on the up again after being on a downward trend last week and currently stands at 514.0 cases per 100,000 population nationally.

101 cases have been recorded in Ceredigion with 382 new cases in Carmarthenshire and 157 in Pembrokeshire.

Powys has recorded 163 while Gwynedd recorded 201 new cases.

One new death has been recorded in the Hywel Dda region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire with the total number of suspected Covid-19 fatalities since the start of the pandemic now standing at 505 across the board area.

Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board in North Wales has recorded 1,018 deaths over the past 18 months with Powys recording 68.

Across Wales, 2,377,009 have received a first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and 2,209,568 are fully vaccinated.
