The latest Covid figures for Wales show that over 3,800 new cases have been recorded nationwide.

Public Health Wales did warn last week that daily figures may be higher than usual due to no data being published on bank holiday Monday and essential maintenance being carried out on the site, which could lead to disruption to the data.

Today’s figures however show that 3,872 new cases have been recorded in Wales since the last update on Sunday, with one new death.

68 cases have been recorded in Ceredigion with Carmarthenshire recording 212 cases today.

Pembrokeshire has recorded 149 cases today with 119 in Powys and 164 in Gwynedd.

The rate of infection in Wales currently stands at 386.6 cases per 100,000 population.

Ceredigion has recorded 249 cases since last Tuesday, but this figure may not be a true representation due to disruption in reporting.

Dr Chris Williams, an incident director for Public Health Wales said: “We hope any disruption is minimal, but there is a risk we will not be able to report figures as usual during this period.

“There may be a backlog of results and other statistics over the coming days, and there will be a period of data reconciliation and validation that may affect our daily reporting figures for several days.

“During this time, positive case numbers, numbers of deaths we report may be lower than the true figure, and numbers reported in the days after 31 August may be higher than usual as data is added retrospectively.

“This has not affected individuals receiving their results, and anyone who tests positive will be contacted by their local authority’s Test, Trace, Protect team in the usual way.

“As usual, daily figures should be considered in light of the underlying trends, and day-to-day fluctuations should be interpreted with caution.”
