A GRATEFUL sister has recorded a CD to thank hospital staff for the life-saving care given to her newborn brother.
Caio Williams Adams weighed just 2lbs 13oz when he was born 10 weeks prematurely at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, on 1 July this year.
Now making great progress, his family say they are determined to give something back to staff at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Caio’s mum, Kim, her partner, Iwan, and children Cara and Siôn, have a number of fund-raising events planned over the next few months, including the recording of a CD by 15-year-old Cara with the help of local schoolchildren.
Kim said: “Caio was put on a ventilator on the special care baby unit to help him breathe, before being transferred to the SCBU at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd three days later.
"He’d suffered a collapsed lung and had to undergo two blood transfusions, but doctors were amazed with his rapid progress and fighting spirit, and after seven weeks we were able to return home.
“Caio’s now 21 weeks old and 10lbs in weight. He’s making fantastic progress, and it’s all thanks to the wonderful SCBU staff. I really can’t thank them enough, not only for the excellent care, but the wonderful support they gave me and our family during an extremely worrying time.
“Every day I feel so thankful that Caio pulled through. It just shows the importance of giving blood, and of the third trimester scan. Our fund-raising is just our small way as a family to say thank you.”
