WALES has recorded more than 21,000 new Covid-19 cases today.

A total of 21,051 cases have been recorded across Wales according to the latest data released by Public Health Wales this lunch time.

Ceredigion has recorded 462 new cases with 964 in Carmarthenshire and 695 in Pembrokeshire.

Gwynedd has recorded 739 new cases today with Powys recording 550.

These latest figures cover a 48 hour period between Monday and 9am Wednesday.

Public Health Wales says that due to a technical issue it cannot report the number of tests carried out during this period.

Three deaths have been recorded across Wales today, taking the total number of Covid-19 related fatalities to 6,556.

None of the deaths recorded today have been in the Hywel Dda, Betsi Cadwaldar or Powys Health Board regions.

More than 180,000 Covid-19 booster doses have been delivered by Hywel Dda Health Board which covers Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, in the last few weeks.

But vaccination teams of staff and volunteers are stepping forward to expand clinics even further as the health board continues its drive to provide further protection for our communities.

The health board is now inviting - through its drop-in vaccination offer - all those over 18 and whom had their second or third primary dose 13 weeks ago - to attend at their nearest Mass Vaccination Centre for their booster as soon as they are able to.

Bethan Lewis, Interim Assistant Director of Public Health at Hywel Dda UHB said: “I really want to assure anyone who may have been reluctant to attend before Christmas that the centres are generally quieter at the moment and in most cases, people are being seen quickly.

“Cases of Covid-19 are rising again in our area and the full course of vaccination is the best way to protect yourselves and others.”
