A MOTHER of two from Abererch is ‘thrilled’ after a pharmaceutical company stepped in to fund a £3,500 cancer treatment to help prolong her life.

Donna McClelland was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, at the age of 35, and needed an emergency mastectomy in December 2011.

After the operation doctors told her the cancer had spread into her lymph nodes which resulted in a second operation.

In 2012 Donna was told her body was clear of cancer but underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy throughout the year.

Sadly three and a half years later the 39-year-old was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer which has led to the disease spreading into her liver, bones and lungs.

Sadly the mother of two has been told her condition is incurable.

However, there was hope for Donna and her family as she was told by her doctors a certain treatment could be available for her but it would cost around £3,500.

Luckily for the mother of six-year-old Danial and 10-year-old Cian, she has received the news that funding is available for her to undergo Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) which is due to start in the near future.

She said: “I have been very lucky to receive the funding for SIRT but if I need another procedure in the future I would have to pay myself which will be approximately £15,000.

“It’s not a cure but I’m trying everything I can so I’ve got more time to spend with my kids. So I’m thrilled I have been told I can have the SIRT."
